Elizabeth Chicos, 1921-2019

Elizabeth Margaret Chicos, 96, formerly of West Concord, passed away in Rochester on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Upon death, Elizabeth’s body was donated to Mayo Clinic for research.  A belated funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Baptiste de la Salle Church in Dodge Center, Iowa. There will be visitation time for family and friends an hour prior beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sisters of St. Francis, Assisi Heights in Rochester.

Elizabeth Chicos

Elizabeth Margaret Mary Staloch was born to Joseph and Minnie (Schultz) Staloch on March 29, 1921, and raised 10 miles north of Wells in Dunbar Township, Faribault County. The family later relocated to a farm between Wells and Easton. Elizabeth attended school in Dunbar Township and in Wells at St. Casimir’s Catholic School. Elizabeth often commented about how much she enjoyed school. Later Elizabeth moved to Rochester and worked at St. Marys Hospital in housekeeping.

On July 15, 1947, Elizabeth married Leo J. Chicos at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Claremont. The couple lived in Ellington Township, Dodge County, for many years. Among Elizabeth’s interests were flower gardening and her pet dogs and cats. Later in life Elizabeth enjoyed taking lessons and playing the accordion and leading the rosary at church services.

Surviving Elizabeth are daughters Teresa (Randy) Klement of Rochester, Rita (Jordan Cruz) Chicos of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Marie Sexton of Medford; son, Zachary Chicos, of Los Angeles; and grandchildren Julie (Scott Springman) Sexton and their children Leo, Elise and Charlie of St. Anthony, Jonathan Sexton and his daughter, Taya, Jacqueline (Cary) Berg and their children Mariah, Brody and Jenna, Jeffrey Sexton and Daniel Sexton, all of Medford. Also surviving are a sister, Catherine Zimney, of Albert Lea; brother, Louis Staloch, of Easton; and many nieces and nephews. 

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 2015; siblings Edward, Roman, Dorothy and Marie; son-in-law, Jerome Sexton; and several brother and sisters-in-law. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 25 S. St. in Dodge Center is in charge of arrangements.
