18-year-old in critical condition after rollover crash

An 18-year-old man is in critical condition at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after a vehicle rollover Monday night northeast of Hayward.
Colton Uthke of rural Albert Lea was reportedly ejected from a 2001 Volkswagon Jetta during the crash and was flown to the hospital by Mayo One helicopter.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office stated Uthke was the driver of the car and had three passengers, Christopher Manges, 20, Kasey Manges, 18, and Andrew Peterson, 19, all of Albert Lea. They were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea as a precautionary measure.
The Sheriff’s Office said the car was traveling southbound on 830th Avenue at a high rate of speed when Uthke lost control of the car and it rolled four to five times.
Uthke was not wearing his seat belt, but his passengers were, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Alcohol was not a factor.

2 injured in crash northeast of Albert Lea
Two people were injured in a crash Monday morning northeast of Albert Lea at the intersection of 790th Avenue and 235th Street.
Debra Christiansen, 62, and Ruth Porter, 92, were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Christiansen reportedly suffered a neck injury.
According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Porter was driving a 2013 Ford Focus west on 235th Street at about 10:20 a.m. when the car was struck by a 2014 Ford F150, driven by Paul Buschette, 67, that was southbound on 790th Avenue.
Paul Buschette and his passenger, David Buschette, 66, were not injured.
The Sheriff’s Office stated Porter had the right of way, and Paul Buschette was cited for failure to yield.
