Kathy Carpentier, 1946-2019

Kathy (Kern) Carpentier, 72, of Faribault passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, at Three Links Care Center Reflections Suite in Northfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Christ The King Catholic Church in Medford. The Rev. James Starasinich will officiate. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Medford. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N. in Faribault, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Kathy Nancy was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Faribault to John and Doris (Chavie) Kern. She graduated from Marian High School in Owatonna and from Austin Community College with an associate’s degree in accounting and business administration.
Kathy was married to Carl A. Shold on Nov. 12, 1965. They were later divorced and he preceded her in death in 1989.
Kathy worked many places in her career, including Federated Insurance in Owatonna, and with her husband, Carl, in his blacksmith and auto body repair and paint shop. Other work included as a security guard for Pinkertons at Wilson & Co., St. John’s Lutheran Community, The Shepherd’s Inn in Wells, as a collections agent in St. Paul, at Holiday Inn in Albert Lea, Lunds and Byerlys and at Kerry Foods in Blue Earth.
Kathy was married to Lawrence “Bud” Carpentier on July 1, 2000. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She enjoyed nature, being outside, bicycling in Albert Lea and calligraphy.
She is survived by nine siblings, Ralph (Shirley) Kern, Ronald (Peggy) Kern, Joyce Sammon (significant other, Richard Lalonde), Marjorie (Ray) Schmidt, Harlan Kern, Mary (Ed) Zuranski, Sharon (Jim) Gray, Martin (Cindy) Kern and Kenneth (Lisa) Kern; 23 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; special great-niece, Emily Kern; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Carl Shold and Lawrence “Bud” Carpentier; parents John (2003) and Doris (1999); brother, Johnny Kern (1956); premature son, Hans Olar Shold (1968); and significant other, Will Lehman.
