Residents attending the Freeborn County Fair last week selected U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar as their favorite candidate for the Democratic nomination for president in a straw poll at the Freeborn County Democratic Farmer Labor Party’s booth.
Each voter was allowed three beans to place in candidate jars, said Angie Hanson, Freeborn County DFL member. While some placed all three beans in one candidate’s jar, others spread them among two or three candidates.
Klobuchar received 397 beans, while next in the tally was U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont with 224 and former Vice President Joe Biden with 220. U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts placed fourth with 152 beans.
Hanson said this was the first time for the party to do a poll at the fair.
