An Albert Lea man arrested Tuesday after he reportedly fired a shotgun in his home during a domestic incident was charged Wednesday in Freeborn County District Court.

Lwa Ma Pi, 33, faces one count of reckless discharge of a firearm, a felony, and one count of domestic assault, a misdemeanor.

Pi was arrested after police were dispatched to 614 Water St. Tuesday morning after receiving a report of an unknown emergency at the address. The call led to the deployment of the South Central Drug Investigative Unit Special Weapons & Tactics team, but Pi ultimately came out of the house on his own.

Through a translator, a woman at the house, who identified herself as Pi’s wife, told police Pi had accused her of cheating on him and that he had kicked her in the back of the head and in the chest area. Officers observed bruising behind her left ear.

She stated Pi had fired a shotgun in their bedroom at about 6 a.m. that day and that she was scared he might use his guns on her.

She said he tried to kick her out of the house. The couple has four children.

One of the children when interviewed told police he heard a loud noise in the house that morning. He said he heard his parents arguing, and after he heard the noise, he got ready to go to school and left.

Officers found multiple holes in the walls and ceiling and six spent .22-caliber casings.

There were three rifles and a pistol inside the house.

Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning issued a domestic abuse no contact order in the case. Pi cannot have contact with his wife or children, and cannot use or possess firearms or dangerous weapons. He will be on GPS monitoring and cannot use or possess alcohol or controlled substances.

Leuning set Pi’s conditional bail at $10,000.
