1. Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The 2019 Albert Lea Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be this weekend. Registration will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a ceremony at 10 a.m. and the walk starting shortly after from Frank Hall Park in Albert Lea. The walk, which takes place in multiple locations across the country, is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and fundraise for Alzheimer’s care, support and reach, according to a press release.

This year’s honorary family is the Jimenez family. The family honors Jesse Jimenez, an area native who served in the Air Force, was a boxer — going as far as getting to meet Muhammad Ali, and was a local businessman who was involved in the community and helped those in need, his family said in a release. A year after he retired, he developed Alzheimer’s — battling the disease for 14 years before passing away at the age of 78.

 

2. Autumn in the Village

The Freeborn County Historical Museum, Library & Village will host Autumn in the Village this weekend. The free event — complete with music, games, demonstrations, food, hands-on activities and more — will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday on the museum grounds, 1031 Bridge Ave. in Albert Lea.

 

3. Queen tribute

The Crown Jewels: A Tribute to Queen will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center in downtown Albert Lea. Hailing from Minneapolis, the live tribute band performs all the greatest hits, arena anthems and top 10 singles from Queen, according to a press release. Tickets are $25, according to actonbroadway.com.

 

4. ‘For Love Alone’

The opening artist reception for the textiles show “For Love Alone” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative in downtown Albert Lea. The show, highlighting work from Maggie Thompson, explores themes of grieving, loss and Thompson’s Native American Ojibwe heritage. “For Love Alone” will be on display through Oct. 26.

 

5. Golf tournament

Wedgewood Cove Golf Course will host a couples six tournament starting with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Sunday. The tournament entails six holes of best shot, six holes of best ball and six holes of alternate shot. Entry per couple is $80, or $20 for season pass holders. Participants can sign up by calling the pro shop at 507-373-2007, extension 1.
