After losing their first match to Rochester Century 6-4, 6-1, the duo came back and won three straight matches to win the consolation bracket. Kirchner and Conn beat Winona 6-2, 6-3; Mankato West 4-6, 6-2, 10-6; and Red Wing 5-7, 7-5, 10-4. The pair played games from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a lunch break in between.

“(They) played a total of four matches today,” said head coach Janessa Runia Bade. “They battled so hard from comebacks, had amazing points and really showed us what Albert Lea Tigers are made of.”

Also picking up wins for Albert Lea were senior Sam Skarstad against Austin 6-2, 6-0; junior Alli Dulitz won one match against Northfield 6-1, 6-4; and the team of seniors Brooke Maier and Riley Johnson beat Austin at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-4.

The Tigers will play again Tuesday night in the first round of the Section 1AA tournament against an opponent yet to be announced.
