To the organizers of the Halloween Spooktacular.

Thanks to the organizers of Albert Lea’s downtown Halloween Spooktacular for such a fun get-together for families Thursday evening. Though it was a little chilly, the event was a time for downtown business owners to hand out candy to eager trick-or-treaters, and the children could also enjoy games and crafts. Local law enforcement and firefighters were on hand to meet the children as well and give them the chance to check out their vehicles.

Events like this one are one of the things that makes Albert Lea a great place to live, and we thank all who played a part in making it a reality.

Hats off to Matt and Kristina Grunzke of Albert Lea who purchased Strike Zone in Northwood and already are aiming to expand the bowling alley’s offerings in the community.

With the loss of Albert Lea’s bowling alley, these extra activities are sure to attract people from out of town. In addition to expanded bowling leagues, the company offers dart tournaments, bean bag leagues and volleyball. It has also had benefits and live music.

Matt Grunzke has worked at a bowling alley for the last 25 years, and we look forward to seeing what he does with this one under his ownership.

 

To the United South Central football team and Albert Lea girls’ swimmers.

Congratulations to the United South Central football team for another undefeated regular season. While the Rebels lost Friday night against the Thunderbirds of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in the section championship, they’ve shown that the program in Wells is quite strong.

Individuals on the Albert Lea girls’ swim team will find out this week who will go to state from their team after section meets Wednesday and Friday. The team is likely to send a few swimmers. We wish the best of luck to both teams. You’ll have the whole area rooting for you.
