Letter: Many people still driving distracted

Just wondering!
It has been some time now since they passed the law about distracted driving. From what I see, every single day, our paper should have pages of distracted driving violations. I drive three miles to work and three miles back home. I can visually see at least 10 to 15 drivers every morning and afternoon, either with their phone stuck to their ear or they’re looking at their lap. You don’t need a trained eye to see it.
I see mothers and fathers on their phones as they drop their kids off at school. That is a very sad sight! I believe in buckling up and having a sober driver. In my mind, if you’re looking at your lap while driving, you’re not watching the road or observing the things around you, like kids on bicycles or crossing the streets where there not supposed to, or an elderly person who might be moving a little bit slower.
One more thing — and I was told it would never happen — but if they passed a law that if you have an infant seat in your car, your phone would have to be in it, I would safely say there would be no children left in a hot or cold car. Some people live for and by their phones. I have seen people go into complete panic mode when they can’t find their phones. How do you forget your children while you work an eight-hour shift? I don’t get it. We don’t have little ones anymore, but I think about my kids and grandchildren several times a day.
