Six and a half minutes into the second period, Marshall took its first lead of the game with an unassisted goal from sophomore Braxton Meyer. Albert Lea senior Culley Larson knotted the game back up on a power play goal assisted by senior Danny Chalmers and junior Blake Ulve.

Heading into the final period tied 2-2, Marshall leaped ahead with an eighth-minute goal. Ulve would not let the game end there, however, and tied the game back up at three goals each on an unassisted goal with only one minute remaining in the game.

Marshall ended the game seven minutes into the overtime period with a goal that handed Albert Lea a heartbreaking loss to open the season.

The Tigers fall to 0-1 to start the season and will play again Dec. 3 in a home game against the Winhawks of Winona. The Tigers went 2-0 against the Winhawks last season with a combined score of 14-1.
