Christmas in County event slated

The Mower County Historical Society is getting ready for the holidays with its annual Christmas in the County, which will take place Dec. 13 and 14, according to a press release.
Jump start holiday baking and eating at the bake sale from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the administration building at the Mower County Historical Society. The main feature will be Christmas cookies. Lefse, breads, pies, candies and goodies galore will also be available for purchase.
According to the release, the main event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with most activities taking place in the Pioneer Building. Activities for children will include cookie decorating, rock painting, pine cone bird feeders, Christmas card crafting and much more. There will be horse drawn wagon rides around the fairgrounds. You can also ring the bell and blow the train whistle on the 1004 steam engine. The food stand will include homemade chili, hot dogs and chili dogs.
The annual raffle drawing will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday. The grand prize is a quilt made by Virginia Bissen, entitled “President’s Pride,” along with other prizes. There is also a silent auction with over 100 gift baskets for bidding. Bids will be accepted throughout the event, with the last bids being accepted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Winners will be announced by 4 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be in attendance.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Mower County Historical Society, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.
