Salem Lutheran Church will have an Advent service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary, according to a press release. The theme for the service is “Discover the real St. Nicholas.” Attendees will discover the life of the real St. Nicholas, who lived during the Roman empire, and find out why he is the patron saint of sailors and children, and how candy canes, Christmas stockings, pawn shops and sailors are connected to St. Nicholas of Myra. There will be a visit by the Bishop Nicholas. Attendees are welcome to bring their Christmas stockings to be blessed. A free-will offering will be received for the purchase of socks for children or attendees may bring packages of socks. Following the service, there will be cookies and hot chocolate served.
