The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team traveled to Winona Thursday night in hopes of bumping its season record above .500 again.

The Tigers outscored the Winhawks 2-1 in each period to sail to an easy victory, 6-3, beating the Winhawks for the second time this year.

Senior Jacob Prihoda scored the first goal of the game with seven minutes remaining in the first period. He was assisted by junior Sam Witham. However, the Winhawks answered right back with a goal of their own two minutes later. Senior Danny Chamlers put the Tigers back on two 19 seconds later with a goal assisted by junior Blake Ulve.

Winona evened the game again less than two minutes into the second period. The game stayed knotted up for about five minutes of play, when Ulve scored a goal for himself, this time assisted by seniors Campbell Cichosz and Owen Zelenak.

The Tigers put one more puck in the net before the end of the second period, when Chamlers scored his second goal of the game during a power play. He was assisted by Ulve and senior Culley Larson.

Albert Lea put the game out of reach right away in the final period. Zalanak scored an unassisted goal two minutes into the period to make it a 5-2 game. The Winhawks tried to battle back with a goal in the 10th minute, but Witham scored the game-sealing goal with five minutes remaining to secure the Albert Lea win.

The Tigers climb to 3-2 on the season with both losses coming in overtime. They will be back on the ice Tuesday when they hit the road to take on the Mankato East/Loyola Cougars.
