The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team traveled to Rochester Thursday night in search of its sixth win of the season.

The Tigers had no trouble dispatching the Panthers, scoring seven goals in the first period alone to cruise to an easy win, 12-2.

Albert Lea wasted no time coming out and scoring the first goal of the game. Senior Katelyn Steven found the back of the net just 2:19 into the game. Juniors Alli Dulitz and Jaiden Venem assisted on the goal.

Senior captain Mia Fjelsta added a goal less than 40 seconds later, making it a two-goal game less than 3 minutes into the game. Dulitz recorded her second assist on the goal.

Seven minutes later junior Josie Venem scored for the Tigers with an unassisted goal. The Panthers cut into the lead moments later with a goal of their own.

The Tigers kept their foot on the gas, however, as Fjelsta scored her second goal of the game 15 seconds after the Panthers scored their first goal. Fjelsta’s goal was assisted by junior Ally Rasmussen.

Albert Lea went on to score three more goals before the end of the period. Rasmussen scored for herself in the 12th minute of play. Josie Venem scored her second goal of the game less than one minute later, and sophomore Malayna Thompson rounded out the period with a goal with 20 seconds left. Steven, Dulitz, senior Sydney Collins and sophomores Lucy Stay and Esther Yoon all picked up assists on the three goals.

The Tigers continued their dominance in the second period, picking up five more goals.

Senior Laynee Behrends notched the first goal of the period off assists from Steven and senior Rylee Bjorklund.

In the eighth minute, Rasmussen recorded her second goal of the game on an unassisted goal.

Thirty seconds later, Fjelsta snuck one past the goalie and notched the hat trick with her third goal, putting the Tigers up 10-1. Dulitz  was in on the assist, bringing her total to four on the night.

Collins scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, and senior Daysha Luttrell scored the Tigers’ final goal of the game in the 14th minute of the second period. Luttrell’s goal was assisted by Behrends and Thompson.

Century scored once in the final period, but Albert Lea was too far ahead to have to worry about any sort of a comeback.

The Tigers move to 6-6 on the season and will play again Saturday when they travel back to Rochester, this time to take on the Spartans of Rochester Mayo.
