1. Competitive cornhole

Cornhole players of all ages and abilities are invited to test their beanbag skills in a tournament  that will run all weekend at Diamond Jo Casino. Hosted by Mankato Area Cornhole, the competition features separate youth, social and competitive divisions with big prizes up for grabs. The first game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday, with rounds starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and the final competition at 10 a.m. Sunday. Players can register on the day of competition and should report for play at the Diamond Jo Event Center, 777 Diamond Jo Lane in Northwood.

 

2. From field to freezer class

First you will learn, then you will feast at a deer-processing demo happening at 6 p.m. Friday at Country Butcher Shop, 49338 230th St. in Easton. Learn the steps to take and tools to use from a professional local butcher. In addition to the education, attendees will also enjoy a wild game feed and are welcome (but not required) to bring a dish for 12 to share. Bringing a dish gets you a bonus entry into the raffle plus the opportunity to win a prize for most delicious. Prizes consist of tools to process your meat. There is no cost for the class, which is hosted by Farm County Whitetails, the local branch of Quality Deer Management Association. 

 

3. Live local music

Members of Betsy and the Mongrels will play an acoustic set packed with big energy and sound from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at The Interchange, 211 S. Broadway Ave. in downtown Albert Lea.

James Bracken and fellow members of the string group, Stagefright, will perform a very special acoustic show starting 8 p.m. Saturday at Bend in the Road, 25483 State Highway 13 in Manchester.

 

4. Brews and Q’s trivia contest

An afternoon of fizzy beverages and friendly competition is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 5 Alarm Brewing Co., 211 W. Main St. in Lake Mills. Teams of one to six players can register in advance online or in person the day of for a cost of $5 per person. There will be 10 questions in each round, and prizes will include drink tokens and raffle entries. Hosted by the July Jubilee Planning Committee, this is a fundraiser with all proceeds going toward the Lake Mills July Jubilee 2020.

 

5. Indoor 3-D archery tournament

The Full Draw Archery club of Albert Lea will host an indoor archery tournament from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. All 30 targets are three-dimensional and vary by size, location and behavior. Some of them move, some pop-up and some are placed up to 30 yards away. Anyone is welcome at the family friendly event, located upstairs in the Knutson Building at 31 S. Newton Ave. in downtown Albert Lea. The cost is $10 per person.
