Trinity Lutheran Church Women
The Christmas meeting of the Trinity Lutheran Church Women was at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Co-president LeAnn Juveland greeted all who were present. Devotions, “A Christmas Visitor,” were given by Juveland.
The table prayer, “Be present at our table now.” was sung. Dessert and coffee were served for all attending by the Elizabeth Circle. Juveland thanked the Elizabeth Circle for hosting.
Treasurer Nancy Jensen presented the budget for 2020. She asked if there were questions and there were none. Erna Berthelsen moved to accept the budget as presented. Ann Goodmason seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The Triennial Convention 2020 in Phoenix was discussed. Registration of $325 is due Jan. 6. After that date the registration will be $375. The TLCW would like to help with costs for those attending from Trinity. There is $650 available per person to help cover registration, airplane and/or hotel.
There was a reminder that the 1:30 p.m. Jan. 7 meeting, a workshop for all TLCW officers, will assemble booklets for 2020.
The Rev. Eileen Woyen led the installation of officers for 2020. Co-presidents are Juveland and Linda Olson, secretary is Mary Roozenboom, treasurer is Jensen, mission community secretary is Donna Oliva, mission growth secretary is Ann Goodmanson, and mission action secretary is Jo Meyer.
The meeting continued in the church sanctuary with a short Christmas program by the Albert Lea chorale, under the direction of Diane Heany. They were introduced by Ann Goodmanson. Songs included were “A Little Christmas Carol,” “How Far is it to Bethlehem,” “The Christmas Alphabet Song,” “What Child is This,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”
Duplicate Bridge
Nine teams played duplicate bridge Dec. 17. Winners were Ray Schmidt and Dave Solomonson, first place; Jim Fisher and Dave Ring, second place; Lorraine Quinlivan and Barb Rofshus, third place; John Leisen and Rick Stroup, fourth place; and Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, fifth place.
Ten teams played Dec. 18 after enjoying a Christmas Pizza party. Winners were Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, first place; Barb Rofshus and Paul Hanson, second place; Gail and Ray Schmidt and John Karnes and Rick Stroup, tied for third and fourth place;and Bonnie Fritz and Loren Cleland and Joyce Crowe and Millie Siever, tied for fifth and sixth place.
Eight teams played duplicate bridge Dec. 10. Winners were Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, first place; Larry Crowe and Bill Momsen, second place; Gail and Ray Schmidt, third place; and John Leisen and Rick Stroup, fourth place.
Ten teams played Dec. 11. Winners were Tom Flaherty and Stan Schultz, first place; Eunice Michaelis and Dave Ring, second place; Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, third place; Edna Knobbe and Cleo Osmondson, fourth place; and John Leisen and Rick Stroup, fifth place.
Both sessions are played at the Senior Center in Austin. Players come from Mason City, Adams, Austin and Albert Lea. Play starts at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays.
The Tuesday group enjoyed a holiday lunch and Wednesday group did the same Dec. 18.
The group’s numbers are decreasing as snowbirds leave for warmer climes after Christmas, yet those who do not have those plans will continue both Tuesday and Wednesday sessions. The group is always looking for new players.
There were no games played Dec. 24 or Dec. 25. The group did play starting at noon New Years’ Eve, and there were no games Jan. 1. Sessions will start again Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 and continue on through the year.
