Before the blizzard struck for the weekend, the Lake Mills wrestling team made the trek to Eagle Grove to wrestle three conference duals.

The Bulldogs matched up with host Eagle Grove first and came away with a 49-27 victory. The team was powered by six pins and won nine of 14 bouts.

The middle dual against the Rockford Warriors ended in a 72-12 victory for Lake Mills.

“It was nice to have a couple duals before we wrestled Osage to get warmed up,” said head coach Alex Brandenburg. “The kids were aggressive and picked up a combined 13 pins in the two meets.”

The final meet of the night was another classic battle between the two teams who have been atop the Top of Iowa Conference the last several years. Fourth-ranked (2A) Osage was able to squeak out the win, 35-30, over sixth-ranked (1A) Lake Mills.

“Our kids wrestled very well and gave their best effort against Osage,” Brandenburg said. “We were pleased to stick with them and give ourselves a chance to win.”

With the victory, Osage takes the 16-team Top of Iowa Conference dual title from Lake Mills for the first time since 2015.

“Despite the loss, we are really proud of what our program has become,” Brandenburg said. “To annually compete with Osage, who has dominated conference wrestling the past 40 years, is a good feeling.”

A personal milestone was reached at the event, as junior Casey Hanson picked up his 100th career win when he pinned Justin Agtun of Eagle Grove.
