‘Rally’ to take place on courthouse lawn

An event dubbed a “Do-over Rally” is slated for Wednesday on the lawn of the Freeborn County Courthouse.
State Rep. Laura Brod, R-New Prague, will be in Albert Lea to publicly request that Gov. Tim Pawlenty veto any tax bill that eliminates Job Opportunity Building Zone provisions. She has invited people to join her for coffee at 8 a.m. on the lawn.
The Do-over Rally gets its name because Brod and others with her request the governor give the state House and Senate an opportunity to start over again with tax bills.
JOBZ has been successful in Freeborn County, and local officials have lobbied for its continued existing. It is one of the leading counties in Minnesota for creating jobs using the program. JOBZ extends tax assistance to companies looking to settle in outstate Minnesota, which is why some metro lawmakers have opposed the program.
Brod worked with local Republicans in organizing the event. The small business owner is in her fourth term representing District 25A.
