After falling to Mankato East/Loyola 7-1 in their first meeting this season, the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team came out looking for revenge the second time around.

In a low-scoring battle, the Tigers came out on top 2-1 to even the season series 1-1.

The first period was quiet from both teams. The Tigers were called for two penalties in the period, junior Caden Severtson for hooking and senior Owen Zelenak for charging, but the Cougars were unable to find the back of the net during either power-play opportunity.

Albert Lea had nine shots on goal in the period, compared to Mankato East/Loyola with 10.

It was looking slow in the second period as well, until senior Culley Larson scored in the 12th minute off assists from junior Blake Ulve and senior Danny Chalmers.

The Tigers scored to start the third period, when Larson capitalized on a power play. Ulve was in on the assist for the second time of the game.

The Cougars cut into the lead with six minutes remaining, but failed to tie the game before the final buzzer.

The Tigers climb to 8-10-1 on the season and will play three games next week, starting Tuesday at home against Faribault. They will host New Ulm Thursday before capping off the week on the road against Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota.
