The Albert Lea boys’ wrestling team closed out the regular season Thursday night with a dual meet in Northfield.
The Tigers got wins from three wrestlers, but struggled in many of their other matches, falling to the Raiders 51-12.
Seventh grader Nick Korman started the Tigers out with a victory and a 3-0 lead after winning his match at 106 pounds via a 7-1 decision.
After the opening-round win, Albert Lea took five straight losses to Northfield, two of which were bonus-point matches. Sophomores Carsen Knutson (120 pounds) and Carter Miller (132 pounds) both lost in first-period pinfalls. Freshman Aivin Wasmoen lost via a 6-0 decision at 113 pounds, junior Tucker Ericksmoen lost a 11-4 decision at 126 pounds and sophomore Cameron Davis lost an 11-5 decision at 138 pounds.
Down 21-2, the Tigers got back on the winning track with a 17-4 major decision win by freshman Cole Glazier at 145 pounds.
Sophomores Mason Drescher and Henry Eggum lost at 152 and 160 pounds, respectively — Drescher in a first-period fall and Eggum in a 8-4 decision.
Junior Caleb Talamates picked up what would be the Tigers’ final win of the dual in a 23-8 technical fall at 170 pounds.
Sophomore Kadin Indrelie lost an 11-5 decision, before three straight pinfalls ended the dual. Sophomore Adam Semple was pinned in the third period at 195 pounds, freshman Owen Bakken was pinned in the first period at 220 pounds and junior Trevor Ball was pinned in the second period at 285 pounds.
“The score is not a reflection of how well we wrestled,” said head coach Paul Durbahn. “In a lot of the matches we lost tonight, our boys fought hard and didn’t quit. We kept matches close where Northfield was hoping to pick up more bonus.
“We have a lot to work on, but we have a lot of young talent. We’re looking forward to the postseason where we can showcase some of our stand-out individuals that are coming up.”
The Tigers fall to 9-9 in duals this season and will likely travel to Owatonna or Farmington for the opening round of the team section tournament.
