The Albert Lea wrestling team traveled to No. 6 Owatonna Thursday night for their first matchup in the Section 1AAA dual tournament.

For the first time in over 10 years, the Tigers were unable to make it past the first round, falling to the Huskies 60-9.

It was a rough start for Albert Lea, losing the first four matches of the dual. Freshman Aivin Wasmoen lost his match at 106 pounds to No. 9-ranked Cael Robb in a 9-0 major decision. Seventh grader Nick Korman also lost in a major decision at 113 pounds to Owatonna’s Owen Thorn.

Sophomore Carsen Knutson fell in a first-period fall at 120 pounds to No. 8-ranked Yves Evillard and junior Tucker Ericksmoen lost in a narrow 3-2 decision to No. 9-ranked Kanin Hable at 126 pounds.

Sophomore and No. 5-ranked Cameron Davis picked up one of Albert Lea’s two wins with a 8-2 decision victory at 132 pounds over Chase Dallman.

Down 17-3, the Tigers went on to drop their next three matches. Sophomore Carter Miller lost to No. 8 Jacob Reinardy at 138 pounds in a first-period pinfall. No. 3-ranked freshman Cole Glazier dropped a shocker to Jerez Autridge, losing 3-2 in overtime at 145 pounds. Sophomore Henry Eggum lost to No. 1-ranked Landen Johnson in a first-period pinfall at 152 pounds.

Junior Caleb Talamantes notched the next win for the Tigers and their only bonus-point victory of the night. No. 4-ranked Talamantes beat Andrew Nirk by fall in the first minute of the first period.

Albert Lea dropped its final five matches of the dual and the No. 3-seeded Huskies cruised to a victory. Junior Tyler Barney lost to No. 9-ranked Kaden Nelson in a pinfall at 170 pounds. Sophomore Kadin Indrelie lost to Matt Seykora 17-7 at 182 points, sophomore Carter Harmdierks lost to Ethan Stockwell by pinfall at 195 pounds and junior Trevor Ball lost to Luke Effertz by pinfall at 220 pounds. The Tigers lost by forfeit at 285 pounds.

The Tigers end their season with a 9-10 dual record and will lose two seniors, Bradley Prestegard and Hayden Johnston, to graduation. The Tigers will be back to compete at the individual section tournament starting Friday at Mayo Civic Center.
