Mr. Wayne Thorson, in a recent letter to the Albert Lea Tribune, made an accusation in which he accused me of writing “obscene” letters. I was, in fact, recently accused by Mr. Thorson on the comments line of sending an unsigned letter to him in which, in his words, “had Scott Bute’s DNA all over it.” If Mr. Thorson did indeed receive an “obscene” letter from someone, I consider it shameful and cowardly. He should not be too surprised though, when he regularly resorts to personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with him. At the risk of being called a liar, the unsigned letter received by Mr. Thorson was not from me. I have always made it a policy to avoid resorting to personal insults and always signing my real name to the bottom of any letter or comment I make. I think that the fake names used on Disqus or Twitter, etc. were a real bad idea and have greatly encouraged incivility.

Call me old-fashioned, but I believe that to live in a free and civil society, we should be able to disagree on issues without personal attacks on people.
