COVID-19 increases reported in 3 area counties

Confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by one in Freeborn, Mower and Steele counties, according to the Minnesota Department of Health on Tuesday.
Adding in these numbers, Freeborn County now has had 37 cases; Mower County, 33; and Steele County, 25. No increases were reported in Faribault County, which has had seven cases, and Waseca County, which has had six cases.
The Freeborn County Public Health Department stated the new person in Freeborn County is a person in their 60s.
As of today, 24 of Freeborn County’s 37 cases have recovered and are out of isolation.
Statewide, total positive cases grew to 7,851, an increase in 617 cases. Of the total cases, 4,614 people have recovered and no longer need isolation, and 455 people have died, an increase in 27 from the previous day. Of the total deaths, 368 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
The Minnesota Department of Health stated 434 people are hospitalized as of today, including 182 in intensive care.
The median age of hospitalized cases is 62, though ages have ranged from an infant less than 1 month old to a person 102 years of age. The median age of the people who have died is 83, though ages have ranged from 30 to 109.
The state department said people ages 30 to 39 represent 19% of all lab-confirmed positive cases. People 70 or older represent the next highest group at 17%. People ages 70 and older have accounted for 82% of the deaths.
The highest number of overall cases have been reported in Hennepin County, with 2,519 cases and 303 deaths. Counties with the next highest numbers are in Nobles County with 1,069 and Stearns County with 815.
Ramsey County has had 583 cases, 37 of whom have died, and Olmsted County has had 313 cases, eight of whom have died.
The department stated 88,009 tests have been completed, including 13,472 through the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab and 74,537 through external laboratories.
