Some area counties see new cases, others remain steady

Freeborn and Steele counties saw new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, according to updates released by the Minnesota Department of Health.
Freeborn County has now had 46 cases, up two from the day prior, and Steele County has had 65 cases, up five.
According to the Freeborn County Public Health Department, one of the county’s new cases is between 10 and 20 years old, and the second is a person in their 30s. Of the county’s 46 confirmed cases, 26 are out of isolation. Five have been hospitalized at some point in their recovery.
No new cases were reported in Mower and Waseca counties, and numbers decreased from 12 cases to 10 in Faribault County.
Statewide, total positive cases increased to 11,799 cases, an increase in 528 cases. Of the total cases, 7,536 people have recovered and no longer need isolation, and 591 people have died, an increase in 13 from the previous day. Of the total deaths, 472 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
Nine of the new deaths were in Hennepin County in residents ranging from 50 to 99.
The Minnesota Department of Health stated 452 people are hospitalized as of today, including 194 in intensive care.
The median age of hospitalized cases is 61, though ages have ranged from an infant less than 1 month old to a person 102 years of age. The median age of the people who have died is 83, though ages have ranged from 30 to 109. The median age for all cases is 44.
The highest number of overall cases have been reported in Hennepin County, with 3,744 cases and 398 deaths. Counties with the next highest numbers are Stearns County with 1,443 cases and Nobles County with 1,269.
Ramsey County has had 986 cases, and Anoka County has had 571 cases. Olmsted County has had 374 cases, and Rice County has had 126.
The department stated 115,781 tests have been completed, including 14,951 through the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab and 100,830 through external laboratories.
