Steele, Faribault and Mower counties saw the largest increases in new COVID-19 cases out of area counties on Friday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Steele County had the largest increase with seven new cases, pushing its total to 92 cases.

The Minnesota Department of Health stated Mower County had four new cases, pushing its total to 54, and Faribault County had four. Its total now sits at 12.

Freeborn County had three new cases and has now had 55 cases, according to the Freeborn County Public Health Department. The new cases include a person in their 50s, one in their 20s and one in their 40s.

Of Freeborn County’s total cases, 27 are in isolation, and 28 are out of isolation. People out of isolation are considered no longer contagious, the health department said.

The Health Department stated of the total cases in Freeborn County, six have been hospitalized at some time during their illness.

Waseca County had one new case, pushing its total to 19.

Statewide, total positive cases increased to 14,240 cases, an increase in 808 cases. Of the total cases, 9,503 are no longer in isolation, and 683 people have died, an increase in 20 from the previous day. Of the total deaths, 554 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.

The Minnesota Department of Health stated 498 people are hospitalized as of today, including 200 in intensive care.

Out of all of the cases that have been reported, 1,702 are health care workers.

The highest number of overall cases have been reported in Hennepin County, with 4,674 cases and 441 deaths. Counties with the next highest numbers are Stearns County with 1,641 cases and Nobles County with 1,342.

Ramsey County has had 1,287 cases, and Anoka County has had 726 cases. Olmsted County has had 417 cases, and Rice County has had 197.

The department stated 134,669 tests have been completed, including 16,959 through the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab and 117,710 through external laboratories.
