Steele County reaches 100 confirmed COVID-19 cases

Steele County reached 100 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, and other area counties saw continued increases in cases, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Steele County had eight new cases, and Freeborn County saw the next highest increase with six new cases, pushing its total to 61.
Mower County saw one new case, increasing its total to 56, and Waseca County had one new case, pushing its total to 20. Faribault County saw no new cases and sits at nine cases.
The Freeborn County Public Health Department said Friday 28 cases were out of isolation. People out of isolation are considered no longer contagious.
Statewide, total positive cases increased to 14,969 cases, an increase in 740 cases. Of the total cases, 10,271 are no longer in isolation, and 700 people have died, an increase in 17 from the previous day. Of the total deaths, 568 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.
The Minnesota Department of Health stated 493 people are hospitalized as of today, including 225 in intensive care.
The highest number of overall cases have been reported in Hennepin County, with 4,930 cases and 454 deaths. Counties with the next highest numbers are Stearns County with 1,675 cases and Nobles County with 1,353.
Olmsted County has had 435 cases, and Rice County has had 221.
The department stated 143,281 tests have been completed, including 17,507 through the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab and 125,774 through external laboratories.
