Two area counties saw increases in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health’s daily update.

Freeborn County had nine new cases and has now had 197 since March.

Mower County had 37 new cases reported, pushing its total to 574.

No new cases were reported in Faribault, Steele or Waseca counties.

The Freeborn County Public Health Department stated the new cases in the county included one person under 10, two people in their 20s, four in their 30s, one in their 50s and one in their 80s.

One person remains hospitalized from Freeborn County, and 133 are out of isolation.

Statewide, 352 new cases were reported, increasing the total cumulative cases to 28,869. Of that number, 24,675 no longer need to be in isolation.

Nineteen new deaths were reported in Anoka, Clay, Crow Wing, Dakota, Hennepin, Itasca, Nobles, Rmasey and Scott counties. Aside from one person in their 30s who died in Nobles County, all of the deaths were in people ages 60 and older.

There have now been 1,236 deaths across the state since the beginning of the pandemic. Of that number, 984 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.

As of today, 427 people are hospitalized, including 193 in intensive care.

Across the state, 369,795 tests have been completed since March.
