Ashburn, Virginia – Robert “Bob” Chester Ullman of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on May 24th, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Ullman, his mother Helen Ullman Wherrett and his second wife, Beverly Ullman.

Bob was born May 21st, 1941 and grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Bob was a 1959 graduate of Albert Lea High School where he was involved in many activities, including varsity basketball, debate, drama, and chess club. After graduation, Bob continued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he was president of the freshmen class. He pursued studies in business and received his BA in 1963. While at the university, he also was a member of the U S Naval Officer’s Training program. Upon graduation, he received his officers commission and entered active naval service. While in the Navy he went on to earn his master’s degree in Business from the University of California.

During his naval career, he had numerous naval assignments as a Supply Officer. Some included service on a naval picket ship, service in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, stationed on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam conflict and more than 10 years of service at the Pentagon. Bob retired honorably from the Navy in 1989, with the rank of Commander. After his retirement, he continued his career as V.P. for Health Services with Anteon Corp., supplying medical equipment and hospitals to the U. S. defense agencies.

Bob enjoyed fine food, fine art and his Buick cars. He visited most of the great restaurants in the Washington D. C. area. He also enjoyed visiting New Orleans and his vacation home on the Delaware Shore. He is survived by his son, James and Ildri Ullman, Tromso, Norway; step daughter, Lisa Michaels and Victor Goetz, step- granddaughter, Alex Goetz, Princeton, NJ; sister, Mary and Gary Moden, Canaan Valley, WV; and nephews Erik and Rebecca Moden (Parker, Brooks, and Taylor) Leesburg, VA; and Alex Moden (Kaza, Blake, and Gabby), Lancaster, OH. We will miss him tremendously. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
