Because the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce is a participating member of Grow Minnesota, it can apply on behalf of up to four local companies for grants aimed at helping small businesses survive the economic recession.
Small businesses will have access to grants to retain their employees while planning for and adjusting to their futures, according to a news release. Access to short-term, low-interest working capital and capital improvement loans also will be available to help continue operations and finance capital improvements consistent with a company’s growth plans.
Applications are available starting this week. Go to http://www.mnchamber.com/research_economy/pohlad-family-foundation.cfm. People can contact Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Director Randy Kehr at 373-3938. Applications are due May 25.
What small businesses are eligible?
Privately owned, for profit.
Annual sales up to $10 million.
Fewer than 50 employees.
For loan applicants — application to a traditional banking institution made and denied.
Kehr said businesses do not have to be chamber members to apply. For information on what the funding may be used and up to what amounts, speak with Kehr.
