The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ track and field team placed seventh Friday in the Big Nine Conference meet at Winona High School.
The Tigers finished with 95 points — three points behind sixth-place Mankato West.
The Tigers’ Alik Smed and Brody Sunblad earned All-Conference honors in the high jump and 300-meter intermediate hurdles, respectively. Smed jumped 6 feet, two inches, and Sunblad finished in 41.64 seconds.
Four Tigers athletes earned honorable mention honors including Kyle Kriewall, Bryce DeBoer, Sean Laurie and Tommy Tiegs.
Kriewall finished third in the long jump with a 20-foot, 8-inch jump, and DeBoer finished third in the shot put with a 49-foot, 5 1/4-inch throw. Laurie finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.91, and Tiegs placed fourth in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
“It was an absolutely wonderful day,” Tigers coach Kevin Gentz said. “Most athletes had their best performances of the season. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a program with so many admirable young men.”
The Tigers compete again Thursday and Saturday in the Section 1AA meet at Lakeville South High School.
