The Glenville-Emmons School District in conjunction with the Glenville Fire & Rescue, Albert Lea Medical Center, Mayo One, Freeborn Sheriff, Minnesota State Patrol, Freeborn County Public Health, Freeborn County Crisis Response Team, Freeborn County Emergency Management and several other willing participants will stage a mock drunken driving crash Friday at the Glenville-Emmons High School.
The Glenville-Emmons School District and area emergency responders have been planning the incident for many months. It was no coincidence that it was staged the week before their prom and the end of the school year.
The “mock crash” will include high school student actors and area emergency responders, who will be creating a believable scene to show the students the process that takes place once a major crash occurs. Students will experience what would happen if they make the wrong choice and decide to “drink and drive” or choose to ride with someone who has been drinking and behind the wheel. Students will see participants being treated for injuries, the cars being stabilized and with extraction, and the intoxicated person being tested and subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Afterwards students will have an opportunity to reflect the consequences of the wrong choice and how it affects friends, family, school and the community. The discussion will address the permanent consequences of human injury, loss of property, legal issues and the fatal choice of the loss of life.
The mock crash will start at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Glenville-Emmons High School, 230 Fifth St., Glenville.
