United South Central baseball coach Pat Frank said he’d be curious how his team would fare on the road Tuesday against New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, not only because it was a big conference game, but also the first road game for the Rebels this season.
It looked largely like many of their home victories as the Rebels defeated the Panthers 11-4 in what Frank called the biggest game of the season for his club.
It was a big win considering the team was coming off four losses from last week.
USC pounded out 14 hits and starter Nick Fure pitched seven sharp innings as the Rebels (4-4, 3-1 Gopher) remained near the top of the conference.
Fure threw seven inning of three-hit ball, allowing four run and striking out seven.
For NRHEG it was their first loss since April 9 against Blooming Prairie.
Chris Schultz was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for USC and Eric Lackey went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
The Panthers did take a 4-3 lead after the fourth inning, but the Rebels responded with three in the fifth and four in the sixth for the win.
“We played pretty well defensively and for us to win games we have to do that,” said Frank.
The Rebels had two errors in the game, which both came in the fourth inning.
