AUSTIN — Austin police are searching for two suspects in an armed robbery that took place at the 14th Street McDonald’s in Austin early Thursday morning.
The robbery happened around 4:45 a.m., as three McDonald’s employees were arriving at work for the opening shift. Police Captain Dave McKichan said the suspects confronted the employees outside of the building but made their way inside the business somehow.
The employees told police the men pointed a silver handgun at them and made them lay on the floor while the men took money from the cash registers. McKichan would not comment on the amount of cash that was taken.
McKichan said witnesses described the suspects as two light-skinned black men; one was wearing jeans with a white, hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with a purple T-shirt over it. Both had their faces covered with bandanas.
Police are unsure at this point if there was a getaway car, but McKichan said the robbery is under investigation.
A K-9 unit was brought in to track the men’s scent, according to McKichan.
If anyone has any information regarding the robbery or the suspects, McKichan said to contact local law enforcement immediately.
