Sophomore won 3,200-meter run, will race again Saturday
Albert Lea girls’ track and field star Chrissy Monson earned a third-consecutive trip to the state tournament Thursday by winning the 3,200-meter run in the Section 1AA meet at Lakeville South High School.
Monson finished the race in 11 minutes and 13.17 seconds — over 22 seconds faster than second-place Andrea Brekken, of Lakeville South.
“Chrissy ran a phenomenal race today,” Tigers coach Margo Wayne said. “She was great. She was only two seconds off her conference time, and the wind was ridiculous.”
The 3,200-meter run was the only event with a final Thursday. The 1,600-meter run final, which Monson is also eyeing a third trip to state in, will be held Saturday.
No Tigers athletes advanced to the finals of any event. All relays, the 1,600-meter run, pole vault, triple jump and shot put will be held Saturday at Lakeville South High School.
