Republican Matt Benda of Albert Lea and DFLer Jeff Ettinger of Austin were the top vote-getters amongst Freeborn County voters in the special primary election Tuesday.

For the Republicans, Benda, a longtime lawyer, received 1,047 votes, while the next highest vote total went to Brad Finstad, with 436 votes, or 20.08%, according to unofficial votes from the Freeborn County Audiitor-Treasurer’s Office. Jeremy Munson received 405 votes, or 18.65%, and Jennifer Carnahan received 192, or 8.84%.

For the DFLers, Jeff Ettinger received 622 votes in the county, or 72.49% of votes, with the next highest vote total going to Sarah Brakebill-Hacke, with 56, or 6.53%. 

Of the 3,124 ballots cast, 69.49% of them were cast for the Republican Party, and 27.5% were cast for the DFL Party.

There was an about 16.77% voter turnout out of  18,632 registered voters.
