Albert Lea Area Schools has announced changes tied to two administrators in the district.
Former Sibley Elementary School Principal Nicky Severtson, who has served in the role for over three years, will transition to assistant principal at Albert Lea High School, while Kristy Kenis, assistant principal at the high school, will become interim Sibley principal.
In a letter to Sibley families and caregivers, Severtson thanked them for their patience and understanding as she had been on leave and also thanked Kenis, who filled in during her absence.
“Personally and professionally, I have made the decision to join Principal Dibble and his team as an assistant principal at Albert Lea High School starting after fall break,” she said. “I am excited and look forward to this new opportunity.”
Severtson said she has enjoyed her 3 ½ years as Sibley principal and will cherish the relationships that have been built with staff, students and families.
“Sibley will always have a special place in my heart, and I will forever remember the little moments such as getting a high five and an excited good morning from students in the hallway or seeing the joy on a student’s face when they have mastered a new concept,” she said. “I look forward to partnering with you and your student again as they continue their educational journey to the high school.”
Kenis has had more than 20 years as a teacher in special education, as well as other building leadership roles.
