Albert Lea girls’ basketball falls in home opener

The Albert Lea girls’ basketball team opened at home Friday against Rochester Mayo.
The Tigers hit the floor with a solid start against the much taller Spartans. However, cold shooting and turnovers described the second part of the first half.
The Tigers did, however, attempt to match the taller opponents with defensive rebounds a highlight for the night with 21 compared to the Spartans 27.
The Tigers were led in rebounding by junior Nevaeh Wacholz and senior Lexi Jones.
Tigers were led in scoring by senior Liz Wallace and junior Jaelyn Boss with Boss hitting a halfcourt last second shot to close out the night. A 17% shooting percentage for the night led to a loss of 25-79.
The Tigers travel to Mankato West and Red Wing next week and will be home again next Saturday against Simley.
