Norris “Bud” Sigurdson

Norris (Bud) Sigurdson (94) passed away on Monday, November 27 surrounded by his children and  loving wife, Beulah Sigurdson. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 14 at  Grace Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to service. Vicar Ashley Kuhlman will be officiating.

Norris “Bud” Sigurdson

Bud was born on February 24, 1929, in Freeborn County to Bert and Palma (Knutson) Sigurdson. He  attended Barlow country school and Albert Lea High School. He met the love of his life, Beulah  Petersen, while helping on her grandfather’s farm and on June 18, 1949, they were united in marriage.

The couple was married for 74 ½ years. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Castle Rock,  MN, where Bud worked on his uncle Carl Knutson’s vegetable farm. After several years, they moved  back to Albert Lea where they raised their five children. Bud began working for the Albert Lea Coop  Creamery, as a house-to-house delivery milkman. He loved his customers and they appreciated him.

Every Christmas they would shower him with gifts. During this time, Bud took a second job managing a  school bus company, Minnesota Transit Line. On snowy nights, it was not unusual for him to get a call  from the Albert Lea superintendent to make the decision as to whether the next day would be a snow  day. After over 20 years at the creamery Bud was hired at Wilson Foods which eventually became  Farmstead Foods where he worked almost 25 years until they closed. He finished his working life at  Alamco, a wood products rafter company. Though he worked many jobs, Bud could have just as easily  been a handyman. He had the skills and intelligence of an electrician, plumber, carpenter, remodeler  and mechanic all combined. Luckily he taught what he knew to his children.

Although Bud didn’t sit still for long, he loved reading until wet macular degeneration robbed him of this  pastime. He was a true outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and camp. One of his favorite things to do  was vacationing with his family in Northern Minnesota. These trips always included fishing with family  and friends. In his later life, the family loved to camp at Jellystone Park in Warrens, Wisconsin. The  family is blessed with cherished memories of those times together. In his 90th year, he still got to go out  for one more season of deer hunting. He also made sure that the birds and squirrels had plenty to eat in  the winter. A true Norwegian, Bud also enjoyed his lutefisk dinners. Above all, Bud loved spending time  with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and especially with Beulah.

Bud is survived by his wife Beulah, and children Terry (Shirl) Sigurdson, Pam Sigurdson, Lisa (Mike)  Conway, Todd (Wanda) Sigurdson and Kim Hoffman, as well as his grandchildren Ginger (Jon) Pedersen,  Brieana (Ryan) Leif, Tyler Conway, Trevor (Manon) Conway, Tanner (Caitlyn) Conway, Alayna Sigurdson,  Jake Hoffman, Kyra Hoffman and Kylie Hoffman, and great grandchildren Jack, Sam and Alex Pedersen,  Jada and Maya Leif, and Violette, Jude and Louis Conway, and his sister-in-law, Florence Sigurdson. He is  also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Greg Hoffman and eight siblings, Lumen, Ralph,  Wally, James, Betty, Delores, a brother Norris, who Norris (Bud) was named for and a sister in infancy.
