Kathleen Ann Cashin

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Cashin, her father, T. Donald Cashin who died on this exact date three years ago and two nephews, Timmy Cashin and Spencer DeWild. Kathy is survived by her 6 siblings, Tim Cashin (Holly) of Tonka Bay, Mary Sutherland (Ken) of White Bear Lake, Nancy Hoium (Rol) of Albert Lea, Peggy DeWild (Roger) of Austin, MN, Tom Cashin of San Francisco, and Maureen Cashin (John Storm) of Hackensack, MN.

Kathy was the dearest of all souls who struggled with mental health issues for 50 years. She worked courageously to understand and accept the challenging depressions that interrupted her happiness.

Most of the time Kathy was gregarious and exuberant. Her larger-than-life personality endeared her within her many circles of friends. Her family was her foundation. She was dearly loved by the staff and residents at Touchstone Mental Health in New Hope where she found support and security for 25 years. She found community using her love of music by singing with the choir at St Raphael Catholic Church.

Kathy was a proud Irish red-head who was once crowned “Miss Congeniality” in the Miss Albert Lea Contest. She dressed up for all holidays, complete with appropriate socks and earrings. She was a fierce Scrabble player. She never arrived anywhere empty-handed and was well known for her famous lemon poppyseed bread. Her detailed calendar was her constant companion as she wrote copious notes, letters, and cards, complete with stickers & emojis remembering the special days for all: nieces, nephews, friends and family.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at Touchstone Mental Health for their years of diligent care, to James Borsky & the St Raphael Choir for providing Kathy with joy and purpose, to the many medical professionals for their unfailing dedication to Kathy’s optimal health and lastly, to the staff at North Memorial ICU who made her last week comfortable and dignified.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday 12/27/2023
