GLENVILLE — The parking lot of Glenville-Emmons Elementary School was packed with cars as parents, grandparents and other friends visited students for Holiday Hoopla.

Groups took turns going to different stations in the classrooms that had a variety of activities, including a peppermint stacking contest, marshmallow throwing, beaded crafts, science experiments and a contest to see who could get a cookie into their mouth without using their hands. There was even a game of musical chairs using plastic cups and Christmas music.

Tiffany Gordon, the third-grade teacher at Glenville-Emmons, coordinated the day.

“In the past, we’ve done bingo,” Gordon said. “I just decided it would be a good time close to the holidays to include the community and have family come and join.”

Gordon took on the task amid other holiday busyness and got help from the other teachers in the school.

“The teachers worked together to come up with a plan to do at least four different activities, to involve all these families and show off what we’re doing at our school,” she said.
