On Friday evening, Spirit Lake hosted an eight-team dual tournament.

The format was two four-team pools to begin wrestling with.

Lake Mills first squared off against East Sac County and rolled to a 73-0 shutout victory. In the dual, Bulldog wrestlers knocked off a couple returning state qualifiers.

West Lyon was the second pool opponent, and also fell to Lake Mills, 58-18.

The two wins set up a matchup with Sioux Center, and the winner would move on to the championship dual.

The Warriors ended up being the toughest opponent of the day, but the Bulldogs put together a solid performance to win 44-24.

“We knew Sioux Center would be a tough opponent as last year our dual with them came down to the last match,” said Lake Mills coach Alex Brandenburg. “Their middle through upper weights are very solid, but our kids wrestled very well to secure the win.”

The championship was set against the winner of the other pool, Central Springs. Lake Mills wrestled well and defeated the Panthers, 52-16.

“Our kids wrestled very well tonight compared to the night before in Greene,” Brandenburg said. “We need to keep working on the little things to be ready for the stretch run.”

On the individual front, Lucas Oldenkamp, Royce Peterson, Hayden Helgeson, Landon Price, Steve Brandenburg, Garrett Ham and Beau Kaufman all finished 4-0 for the tournament. The fourth-ranked Bulldogs improved their record to 19-3 for the season.
