Philip John Rogers, a dedicated teacher and devoted community member, passed away on April 27, 2024, in Rochester, MN, at the age of 87. Born in Madelia, MN, on October 27, 1936, Philip lived a life filled with purpose, positivity, and unwavering commitment to those around him.
In December 1963, Phil married the love of his life Katherine Hromatka in Chatfield. Together, they welcomed their two sons, Stephen and David.
Throughout his 35-year tenure as an educator at the Chatfield School District and District 241, Phil touched the lives of countless students, leaving a lasting impact on the community he served. Phil’s love for learning and exploration led him to visit all 50 states, further enriching his understanding of the world.
A loyal member of Grace Lutheran Church, Phil served in various roles, including treasurer, counselor, and ultimately as president. He actively participated in multiple church committees and volunteered at the Ecumenical Food Shelf and the local community library, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion.
Left to cherish Phil’s memory are his children, David (Jennifer) Rogers, Stephen Rogers; grandchildren, Jacob, Luke, Olivia, Levi; great-granddaughter, Evelyn; and niece, Joan Poddske. She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
Phil is preceded in death by his wife, Kathie Rogers; parents, John Rogers and Hulda (Boelter) Bolin; daughter-in-law Julie Rogers; step-father, Frank Bolin; sister, Norma Kidd; and brothers-in-law, Robert Kidd and Robert Poddske.
A memorial service to honor Phil’s life will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, MN, on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 1:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior at the church; Pastor Lisa Shank will be officiating. The family invites their friends to share in a meal following the service. Phil will be reunited with Kathie in Lanesboro Cemetery.
