EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
“Behaving like a princess is work. It’s not just about looking beautiful or wearing a crown. It’s more about how you are inside.” — Julie Andrews
I have several crowns at my house, one from being Miss Bricelyn in my teenage years, one from this past January, 60! and I will be getting the first of several more (teeth) crowns this week. I have a friend who hands out “crowns” (around 300 of them to date) and reminds the recipients:
“You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” — Isaiah 62:3, NIV
There are many references to crowns in the Bible; probably one we have all heard referenced is the Crown of Life we can look forward to in Heaven.
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” — James 1:12, ESV
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” — 2 Timothy 4:7-8, ESV
To us wives: “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.” — Proverbs 12:4, ESV
To grandparents: “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.” — Proverbs 17:6, ESV
“Crown him the Lord of life! Who triumphed o’er the grave, who rose victorious in the strife. For those he came to save. His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high, who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.” — Crown Him With Many Crowns by Matthew Bridges written in 1851.
“Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.” — Philippians 4:1, ESV
May you feel the love of Jesus in your life this week!
