Need some more ideas of activities to do this summer? Consider attending the festivals in the small towns around the region.

Small-town festivals are a happy slice of Americana and provide a festive-yet-relaxed atmosphere.

The people who organize the festivals have put a good amount of time and effort into making their town shine, and a lot of pride is on the line. We salute the organizers for getting things rolling and the volunteers for all their hard work.

Many of the festivals include parades, car shows, activities and even fireworks.

Morin Lake Days kicks off the season of small town festivals on Friday through Sunday.

Some of the other coming festivals are as follows:

• Kiester Days: June 21-23

• Ellendale Days: June 28-30

• Scarville celebration: July 4

• Fourth of July Celebration, Bricelyn: July 4-7

• Farm and City Days, New Richland: July 5-7

• Hayward citywide garage sale, craft and bake sale, July 6

• July Jubilee, Lake Mills: July 12-14

• Kernel Days in Wells: Aug. 9-11

• Glenville Days, Aug. 8-11
