EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
“Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.” — John Updike, American novelist and poet
“I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” — Ezekiel 34:26, NIV.
In the Bible, rain is often portrayed as a symbol of God’s abundant provision.” — Google search
A rainstorm is predicted, everywhere I turn I’m hearing about it; radio, TV and people planning around its arrival. How often in life do we wait for the impending “next” thing? I too am waiting in several areas of my life currently for the rain, then for the clearing, followed by “after the rain.” Life is hard. Life can and does get messy. We all have seasons of such.
The big question is, how will I walk through the rainstorm? Whom will I lean into for help, comfort and discernment? Who will be my umbrella to shield me, my protector? I choose Jesus!
“Open the heavens, pouring out a blessing. Lord, we need refreshing, till it overflows.” — “Rain” lyrics by Leeland
“Lift your heads, let us return to the mercy seat where time began. And in your eyes, I see the pain. Come soak this dry heart with healing rain. And only you, the Son of Man can take a leper and let him stand. So, lift your hands; they can be held by someone greater, the great I Am. Healing Rain is falling down.” — “Healing Rain,” lyrics by Michael W. Smith.
“Jesus shall reign where’er the sun does its successive journeys run; his kingdom stretches from shore to shore. As rain on meadows newly mown, so shall he send his influence down; his grace on fainting souls distills, like heav’nly dew on thirsty hills. Great God, whose universal sway, the known and unknown worlds obey, now give the kingdom to thy Son, extend his power, exalt his throne.” — portions of the old hymn, “Jesus Shall Reign,” by Isaac Watts, 1719; inspired by Psalm 72
Put Jesus first. Jesus Over Everything.
“My prayer dear readers as you walk through your own rainstorms of life, I pray you too will choose Jesus. The sustainer. Lifegiver. Protector.” — quotes from Lisa Whittle
