A correction to my My Point of View column on June 12: I miscalculated how much of Freeborn County farm income came from government subsidies in 2022. It was much lower than 1/4 that year. The correct percentage is about 7% because 2022 was an unusually high farm income year.
Farm income tends to fluctuate a lot from year to year. Statewide data from the USDA Economic Research Service indicates that government payments accounted for 21% of Minnesota net farm income, on average, between 2015 and 2022.
