Man in critical condition after falling from ladder

A 27-year-old Blooming Prairie man was seriously injured Monday after falling off a ladder outside a home in Albert Lea.

The man, identified as Derek Johnson, was reportedly airlifted to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after the fall, where he remains in critical condition, as of Tuesday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson, who was employed through a painting contractor, was doing work at 72408 Grey Fawn Drive in Indian Hills.

Johnson was reportedly 20 feet above the ground when the ladder buckled, and he fell.

Initial calls to dispatch stated Johnson was unconscious after the fall and that there was a lot of blood at the scene.

The incident reportedly took place at about 8:13 a.m. Monday.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Albert Lea Township Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Health Systems ambulance assisted at the scene.
