Filing for most state and local offices has been closed for some time now, but this week, filing will open for the last local office of the season.
Candidates interested in running for the Albert Lea school board can do so by filing at the district office at Brookside Education Center, 211 W. Richway Drive.
There are three seats up for vote this year, seats that are currently held by Neal Skaar, Bruce Olson and Angie Hoffman.
These individuals have not yet announced if they will seek reelection.
We encourage people who are looking to make a difference in the community, and particularly in the area of youth, to consider running for office.
It’s easy for people to sit back and talk about how things should be done, but it takes courage to actually get up and do something about it.
And while we recognize that public office can sometimes be a thankless job, it is a critical job for moving the area forward.
We hope to see a greater turnout of candidates for these seats compared to the lower number of filings this year at the city and county levels.
Filing opens Tuesday and continues through 5 p.m. Aug. 13. At the district office, ask for Darci Rasmussen, executive assistant to the Office of the Superintendent and School Board.
Cost to file is only $2.
