An Albert Lea man was charged in Freeborn County District Court on Monday with selling methamphetamine to a drug task force informant in June at his home.
Shawn Casey Tope, 44, was charged with one count of first-degree meth sales tied to the allegations.
Court documents stated on June 4, the informant approached the side door of Tope’s residence at 205 Giles Place, and the informant asked for a “zip,” which is slang for an ounce of methamphetamine.
Tope reportedly said he would give it to him for $450 and then reportedly appeared to take meth from a safe and weigh it before giving it to the informant in a bag.
The suspected meth field-tested positive and weighed 31.6 grams.
In court on Monday, Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning set Tope’s bail at $150,000 without conditions and $80,000 with conditions. Conditions include no possession or use of alcohol or drugs, signing a waiver of extradition and remaining law abiding, among others.
Tope is next slated to appear in court Aug. 16.
In a separate case, Tope was also charged Monday with fifth-degree meth possession, fleeing police and obstructing the legal process for when an officer tried to arrest him on the first-degree charge.
When Tope was about 10 feet away from the officer, he reportedly started to run away from him. He was ultimately shocked with a Taser and resisted arrest.
He was allegedly found with a bag of crystal meth that weighed 2.7 grams.
