Dan “Danny” Barnick, 31, of Rochester, formerly of Albert Lea, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Rochester, MN, with his loving family by his side.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services, with Pastor Trish Reedstrom officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held from 9-11:00AM prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed. Guests are encouraged to wear camo, hunting gear, and Dan’s favorite color: Red.
Born on March 19, 1993, in Albert Lea, Dan was a son of David and Dawn (Lombard) Barnick. Dan spent his early days in Albert Lea, where he worked on Ladwigs and Knaack Dairy farms, fostering his passion for working with cows and inspiring his dream of owning a hobby farm. With his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Dan worked as a Corrections Officer at the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center before following in his father’s footsteps working as a truck driver. Dan’s love for the open road found him working for various companies, including, Britt Wegner, Central Transport, and Cintas.
On July 31, 2022, Dan exchanged vows with his beloved wife, Amanda, in Duluth. Together, they opened their hearts as foster parents and shared their love with those in need before welcoming their beloved son, Jaxon. Recently, the couple learned they are expecting a second child. Dan’s resilience was evident as he fought and conquered cancer, showing immense strength and courage throughout his battle.
Dan had a joyful spirit and a contagious sense of humor. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and exploring the world around him. Skydiving, deep-sea fishing, and canoeing were just a few of his adventures. Known for his generosity and willingness to help others, Dan was a true people person who touched the lives of many.
His passion for life extended to his love for animals, including his cherished dogs, Abby and Asher, and his cat, Winnie. He will be remembered for his unique personality, his prankster ways, and his unwavering kindness. Dan truly was a one-of-a-kind man who left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Amanda, those left to cherish Dan’s memory include his children, Jaxon and Baby Barnick expected in April 2025; his parents, David and Dawn Barnick; siblings, Jill (Eric) Anderson, Patrick (Claire) Barnick, and Rachel (Dylan) Barnick; a nephew, Mason Anderson; mother-in-law, Anna (Jim) Zylstra; several aunts and uncles, including: Charles and Theodore Nicholson, Amy Vasey, and April Schuur; numerous cousins, and countless friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Noona Barnick; maternal grandparents, Art and Sharon Lombard; and his great-grandmother, Mabel Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family for the support and care of Dan’s children.
